Roughen the entire wall to be plastered. Clean all the joints and surfaces of the wall with a wire brush, there should be no oil or grease etc. left on wall surface. If there exist any cavities or holes on the surface, then fill it in advance with appropriate material.

What are the 7 stages of plastering?

7 Steps To Plastering

Apply 1st coat of plaster.
Mix new plaster and apply 2nd coat.
Trowel over your wall to remove any ripples.
Wait 10 mins to flatten your wall to a smoother finish.
Wait 10 mins to start your 1st Trowel.
Use your water brush to give it a wet trowel.
Finish your wall with the final trowel.

Stage 1.

This is where you apply your first coat of plaster, which should be about 2mm thick. When you've loaded the plaster onto your trowel start at an angle with the leading edge of the trowel away from the wall, moving the trowel in a long motion, gradually flattening it to the wall as you go.

Plaster application is built up in three layers, from the inner layer out: scratch, brown, and white. Three-layer plaster applications in historic settings offer certain advantages to the building including offering some fire retarding properties, can be sound-dampening, and has unparalleled strength and durability.
