Fun, outgoing, loyal, strong -- those are just some of the words that remind friends of Bernadette LaFollette. A young Marlborough girl who passed away in December of 2013. Bernadette wasn’t known for her life-threatening condition but rather for her bad jokes and acts of kindness. For a girl scouts project, she wanted to help other kids with illnesses. With the help of Julia Dougherty, the two started a toy drive for the Boston Children’s Hospital.

Julia and Bernadette’s friendship began in preschool. The two connected over health issues, creating a bond that continued to grow over the years. Bernadette regularly helped others, and didn’t hesitate to lend a hand when Aryana was the new girl in Marlborough. Inspired by Bernadette, Julia and Aryana are continuing the toy drive. The girls are hoping to collect five hundred toys this year. New toys, DVD's, video games, crafts, or books can be donated. Drop off locations are at Marlborough High School, Wayside Racquet and Swim Club, Whitcomb Middle School, Rumors Hair Salon, Cloud Nine Toys, Roc's Unisex Salon, or monetary donations can go to www.gofundme.com/bernadetteproject.
