Sculpture time-lapse of the Samurai Beetle.
This sculpture was created for entry to the Sculpture Trail 22 at Cockington Court, running from the end of July until October 2022. The theme focuses on insects and 22 artists are taking part with around 28 sculptures on display around the house and outbuildings of the site.
My contribution is based on the Rose Chafer Beetle.
which I encountered in my garden and was fascinated by its flight and colour, which led to an interest in the scientific and cultural significance of certain insects such as the scarab beetle (the family of beetles to which the rose chafer belongs) to ancient civilisations and how certain head-dress and masks such as the samurai, bear some of their characteristics.
