Ever find yourself caught in the endless loop of doom scrolling? One video leads to another, and before you know it, hours have passed, and your brain feels like it’s just surfed through a tidal wave of random content. But what if there was a way to make that time more meaningful? 💡

This morning, I watched a video about thinking through your thoughts as if you’re writing an essay. (I'll link to it below – it’s definitely worth a watch!). It got me thinking… what if, after every single video you watch, you had to hit pause on your scrolling, turn off your screen, and write for just one minute about what you remember?

Sounds simple, right? But imagine the impact! Instead of just consuming video after video, you’re giving your brain a chance to actually digest the content. This could be a game-changer, especially for middle school and high school students who are growing up in the age of constant content consumption. But honestly, I think it could work wonders for all of us.

Here’s the challenge: after each video, put down your phone or close your laptop for one minute. Just one minute. Think about what you remember. More importantly, think about why you remembered that part. What was it that resonated with you? How did it connect with your brain? What made it stick?

Sure, it’s not as immediately fun as swiping to the next clip of cute kittens, but it’s so much better for your brain. You’ll start to see patterns in what captures your attention and understand more about what matters to you. It’s like giving your brain a quick workout after every session of screen time.

And hey, I’m going to start doing this myself. If I catch myself in the doom-scrolling spiral, I’ll hit pause and ask myself: What did I actually take away from that last video? It might sound simple, but I think this tiny tweak could make a huge difference in how we consume content.

So, give it a shot! Try the one-minute writing challenge after your next video binge and let me know how it works for you. Come back and drop a comment below – I’m super curious to hear your thoughts. I’ll be posting an update on how it’s working for me too.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out the video I mentioned on essay writing and why that process is so important. Turns out, most of the best videos out there have a lot of thought behind them – even if they’re not as obvious as a carefully crafted essay. (Well, except for the silly cat videos. Those are just pure, unfiltered joy!)

Happy scrolling – or rather, happy stopping and thinking! 📝
