"Justice For Kayla Moore" Protest March - Berkeley, CA
On March 12th, approximately 75 people gathered at People's Park in Berkeley, CA to express outrage towards the Berkeley Police Department. A march left the park just after sundown in honor of Kayla Moore, a 41 year old transgender woman who died in her home on February 12th, while in Berkeley Police custody. There has been a severe lack of transparency on the part of BPD in this case, which is causing an uproar among many community groups, including 'Anonymous Queers in Action' who planned this nights march. The march made its way through the heart of Downtown Berkeley, and while most chanted loudly, many also stopped to talk with onlookers to bring them up to speed on what happened to Kayla and why Berkeley Police need to be confronted on this issue.
The protesters made their way to Berkeley Police HQ, where they were met by a handful of cops in riot gear, a few holding 'less lethal' firearms. The building was surrounded by barricades, and the protesters took the opportunity to let Berkeley PD know what they thought:
"YOU. KILLED. KAYLA MOORE!"
