Crowdrender makes render farm software, we're on our way to being a community supported project. You can check out our dev fund at https://www.crowd-render.com/crowdfun... and download a freely available of our add-on at https://www.crowd-render.com.
Also you can learn more about UNC paths here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_%2...
In this Video James uses Blender 2.90 (though you can follow along using any release of Blender post 2.80) and Crowdrender V0.2.6 (V0.2.2 is the current freely available release of our add-on) to create a render farm. Using two PCs, he shows (or perhaps learns how and then shows) how to combine a windows PC and linux PC together to render.
The main problem when combing linux and windows is that sharing assets like textures, simulation caches or other blend files that are included in the main project, is tricky. James shows how to share a folder on windows and map it to a folder on linux allowing Blender and Crowdrender to distribute the render to the windows and linux PC together
If you are rendering shots for CGI or VFX you will hopefully find this video very helpful for setting up your rendering to take advantage of multiple computers :)
