Roi Et Province was a prosperous city since prehistoric times. It was a tributary city with provincial towns in Roi Et. King Phraya Kuluntha was the ruler of Roi Et. In ancient times, Roi Et's history must be divided into two parts. When Roi Et was first established, it was abandoned. The question arises as to who built it, or who held power in the area before its demise. Archaeologists speculate that it was either a Khmer city or a city once held power by the Khmer. Many of the ancient artifacts and ruins that remain today are mostly Khmer art, and locals call them "ku."
