A heart attack occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is blocked. The blockage is most often a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances, which form a plaque in the arteries that feed the heart (coronary arteries).

The following are some of the warning signs of heart attack:
1. Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, tightness, fullness or pain (sometimes crushing) in your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
2. Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, shoulders or stomach
3. Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort
4. A feeling like severe heartburn
5. Breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, vomiting or lightheadedness
6. Anxiety (feeling uneasy or worried)
7. Indigestion (upset stomach)
8. Problems breathing
9. Trouble sleeping
10. Unusual tiredness
