This video addresses a consistent problem players have had across many versions of the game: landing smoothly, especially with non-analog controls. The key is using decoupled mode.
In decoupled mode, you can barely tap strafe in any direction and you will move very, very slowly in that direction. If you need to stop, simply recouple and (if you don't have any strafe inputs in) you will stop moving. You can also use spacebrake.
1. Lower landing gear.
2. Request landing using comms page on MFD.
3. Lower speed limiter - the lower the better, assuming you are close to the landing area already.
4. Position over the pad.
5. Check lineup - by pointing at it vertically, using external camera (F4, hold z to rotate), or using the pitch ladder - the longer line is the horizon line.
6. Decouple (V).
7. Thrust downward momentarily (CTRL). Use SPACE and CTRL to fine-tune speed. Couple back up or use spacebrake if you need to stop.
8. Turn engine off.
"Azimuth Ladder" = Pitch Ladder, sorry for the confusion there.
