Title: Launch a Cyber Career in 2020

Abstract:
Research projections indicate that there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs by 2021. Half a million jobs in the US will go unfilled, yet despite the economic uncertainty caused by COVID-19 shutdowns, interest in the cybersecurity profession is thriving. Yet, there is a statistically-evident disconnect between employer and candidate. In this presentation we examine the alleged skills gap and discuss what interested career-changers can do to get into cybersecurity during the 2020 recession. Topics such as certifications, bootcamps versus traditional education, and work experience are discussed, including what core cyber skills are in most demand right now. Practical tips are provided on how job seekers can map a path forward towards transitioning themselves into a successful career in cyber.
