Westside Food Bank: Who We Are
For more than 40 years, Westside Food Bank (WSFB) has led the fight against hunger and food insecurity on Los Angeles’ Westside. WSFB was founded in 1981 by the Westside Ecumenical Council — a coalition of Westside social service agencies — to create a more efficient food security network. WSFB was among the founders of the Westside Coalition on Housing, Hunger, and Health and the California Association of Food Banks. WSFB is the primary bulk wholesale food supplier for 60+ nonprofit social service and faith-based agencies that operate food assistance programs in West Los Angeles County. Roughly 90% of WSFB food is distributed through partner agencies with food pantry programs and five direct-service mobile pantries, with the remaining 10% provided through shelters, transitional housing programs, community kitchens, K-12 and college food distribution programs, and veterans’ programs.
