The talk will showcase five recent projects to delve into the studio’s vision of urban architecture as a way to rehabilitate urban ecosystems. The first two projects —María Ribera and Juan de la Barrera— offer examples of ‘soft’ residential redensifications through the mixed integration of new buildings and the adaptive reuse of older heritage structures. The next couple —the Juan Soriano Museum and the Railway Forest Park— address public space as a way to promote broader rehabilitations at an urban scale and promote stronger, resilient communities. While the last project will introduce two entirely self-sustainable country homes as precursors to The Ice Factory, JSa’s studio in Mexico City, and a manifesto of regenerative design where solar power, rain harvest, on-site water treatment, and vegetation, achieve a symbiotic reciprocity between the architecture, its landscape and their users.
