1CCBBH - 639. Aurail (1 Credit Clear)
I sorta have some history with this one... I attempted to sit down and learn this game in a Labbin' stream back in March 2022, but then decided I wasn't really having much fun with the game so I kinda dropped it and never came back to it. Lo and behold, it got voted in as one of the games in Calice Cup 9, so it's time to attempt it again.
I feel like I should enjoy this game more, it's a (mostly) top-down tank game and it would seem to be up my alley. But the control is a little goofy, it's hard to swing your guns around to where you need them sometimes. And then there's the 3D sections! They're awful! I don't enjoy them whatsoever. Round 14 in particular can go to hell.
While I did reach my goal of getting a clear on this game, I did it in the most abysmal way possible - finishing with 0 lives in reserve. Ordinarily there's a bonus at the end of the game that gives you 1 million points for every life remaining, including your current life. Except I just discovered in this run that the current life bonus doesn't apply if you have 0 lives in reserve! If I'd had 1 life in reserve I would have gotten 1 million x 2! How silly. And runs of this game that don't die (and get the optional extend on Round 15) get 7 million in bonus at the end, which makes my final score of 793,550 here look... rather anemic. Ultimately I'm not sure if I can be bothered to attempt to get a higher score before the tournament is over, so I might as well just upload this as it is.
