An algorithm is a step-by-step procedure for solving a problem or achieving a specific goal. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
An algorithm always presents a series of steps but is not necessarily related to computers or mathematics. The scope of algorithms is vast. You can find algorithms solving problems in science, medicine, finance, industrial production and supply, and communications.
Algorithms can be applied to every aspect of our lives. Any sequence of actions to achieve something is well-defined and effective, you can consider it an algorithm.
The word "algorithm" comes from the English word "algorithm." Algorithm itself comes from the Latin word "algoritmi." Algorithmi is a Latin translation of the Arabic word "al-Khwārizmī." The word "al-Khwārizmī" is named after a scientist named Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwārizmī. His name was Muhammad ibn Musa, while Al-Khwārizmī means a native of Khwarezm, which is now Khiva, Uzbekistan.
