Designed by Porsche, Made by FORD? Duratec V6 3.0 Engine Teardown Reveals What's Inside!
Are you looking for race-car engineering and reliability in your next Ford sedan? In this video I teardown a 3.0L V6 Duratec engine from a Ford Escape, which was the last of its kind before the Ford Ecoboost series took its realm. I'll run through the internals of the valvetrain, rotating assembly, pistons and timing and lubrication system to see how it works and just what made this engine so good (for a Ford!).
The Ford Duratec V6's origins stem from Cosworth, who co-developed this engine with Porsche in the 90's. It was used up until the EcoBoost engine took over in the early 2010's for use in pedestrian vehicles like the Ford Contour, Escape and Taurus, Fusion, Edge, Flex, Mazda6, Mazda CX-9, Lincoln MKZ, MKX, MKS among other Volvo models as well.
After a few iterations, this engine gained variable valve timing and revised valve train, for a whopping 240HP. Having been produced until 2012, the Ford Duratec V6 has proven to be a reliable engine, especially when compared to its successor, the Ford Ecoboost series.
