These are some of my thoughts on structural issues and chronic illness. Personally I believe our bodies have an incredible ability to heal and adapt even given less-than-ideal structural situations. ❤️🩹
While they may play a role in the “perfect storm” that leads chronic illness, I don’t believe they’re usually the main cause or that they should be viewed as a huge roadblock to healing.
I’ve often wondered:
Why are many people with severe structural issues found on imaging symptom free?
Why would a structural issue in the stomach all of the sudden cause an adult in their 20s to not be able to eat?
Why would a structural issue in the brain or spinal cord all of the sudden cause an adult to lose their ability to walk?
I have to wonder if the main difference really is our nervous system state and capacity to handle external and internal stressors.
If you’re struggling to believe healing is possible for you because of a structural diagnosis, I’d encourage you to let yourself be curious. What if I could still see healing and progress, even without (or before) addressing ___ structural issue?
Instead of spending hours desperately researching and scouring Facebook support groups, start listening to recovery stories. Find people that are healing and start to visualize yourself healthy and strong. ✨
You could also consider starting brain retraining with an open mind and see where it takes you. This was one of the most helpful things for me in my own chronic illness recovery.
P.S. I wanted to share this before going into more detail about my tongue tie release. Because I truly do believe the most important part of healing is always going to come from within. 🫶🏻
P.S.S. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments.
