Hi guys!
I am back with another delicious recipe for you to try. Today I’ve made CHICHEME the right way! I few months back I tried making "store bought Chicheme" but it turned out COMPLETELY different. I did however, end up with a delicious porridge, but definitely NOT the traditional Panamanian drink. So today I am very proud to present the real deal!!
I have made 2 versions. 1 being the traditional drink and the other being the hacked version. All throughout the country you will find many people adding their own special touch. My sister-in law even uses ginger! (But that's a whole another video haha)
Some tips I have for you are:
Always soak your corn kernels for at least a good 8hrs before cooking. This will help to reduce the cooking time.
If you have a pressure cooker, then you will also reduce more of the cooking. Generally in a PC it will take an 1hr. If you don't have one however, you can totally use a regular pot BUT the time will double to 2hrs OR until tender.
You could also use an open fire stove which will give your corn a delicious smokey taste.
The ingredients I used today were:
1Lb of white corn kernels.
1 1/2 cups of evaporated milk.
4 cups of whole milk.
2 cups of water.
Sugar to taste.
For the hacked version you would also add the following:
1 tsp of vanilla extract.
1/8 of a tsp of cinnamon.
A pinch of freshly grated Nutmeg.
A pinch of salt.
Cook time:
1 hr in a Pressure Cooker.
2 hrs in a regular pot or until tender.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did making it for you! Remember to follow us on INSTAGRAM @SAN.PAL20 for more interesting facts!
Stay safe and I will see you soon!
TOODLES!
