Sample acquisition by the Perseverance rover. Eventual sample return from another planet. The search for biosignatures on Mars. These milestones and others will shape the history and science books of the future.
Robert Moeller works for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover flight project. As Sampling Science Systems Engineer, he works at the intersection of science and engineering to help plan rock and regolith (soil) sample acquisition.
In this presentation, originally recorded for the Science Center of Iowa on May 4, 2021, Moeller shared stories and excitement of both what has been accomplished and what is ahead for this mission.
This presentation is part of SCI's Cafe Scientifique series, which highlights the innovative work being done by STEM professionals within Iowa and beyond. It is designed for adults and young adults, but we encourage anyone with an interest in lifelong learning and/or careers in STEM to participate!
