How thousands of Southeast Asian Hmong ended up in the Caribbean
How did thousands of Hmong end up settling in regions of the world as diverse and far-flung as French Guiana in South America? The Hmong are an ethnic minority in Southeast Asia mainly concentrated in Vietnam, Laos and Thailand and they had a unique role during the decades-long conflict in the former French Indochina. As a result of their connections to the West, many were forced to flee after the Communist takeover, arriving in the United States, France or France's largest overseas territory of French Guiana. Today their community has spread out across the Guianas and is thriving, growing to nearly 10,000 in the present day. Thanks for watching
