By the end of 2024, mid-2025 the latest, the country’s entire coastline – from the Essequibo Coast up to the Corentyne Coast – is expected to be served with treated water by the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) under the Water Treatment Infrastructure Improvement Project. Notably, among the treatment plants that are to be constructed are those at Leguan and Wakenaam that will ensure both islands receive wholesome water. Over the last three years, GWI Projects Officer Marlon Daniels told the News Room that the government has made a tremendous amount of money available for the company to invest in treated water coverage across the coastland.
