Rinderpest: The Cattle Plague and its Eradication
Today I discuss Rinderpest, the second disease to be eradicated by humanity (after Smallpox). This disease caused major morbidity and mortality for cattle for centuries. Officially eradicated in 2011, it took decades of concerted biosecurity, international cooperation, mass vaccination, veterinarian action, and public education to eliminate Rinderpest.
