New 2024 Mitsubishi ASX Hybrid SUV Facelift
Mitsubishi Motors is strengthening its presence in the European B-SUV segment with the new ASX.
The Mitsubishi ASX ('Active Sports X-over') is based on the CMF-B platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, which allows for a wide range of powertrain options to meet the varying needs of different markets.
The new Mitsubishi ASX is designed to stand out and stand out in its category. This starts with Mitsubishi Motors' characteristic 'Dynamic Shield' family face, which provides a confident, robust and dynamic appearance.
The powerful stance of the new Mitsubishi ASX is partly due to the more horizontally designed front, combined with LED lighting, a sculpted bonnet and low-positioned air intakes. The side profile is characterised by a flowing silhouette in combination with wide and high shoulders. The robust SUV looks are emphasised by the plastic wheel arch edges and side skirts. Depending on the version, the ASX is equipped with 17-inch Flex wheels with a specially designed hubcap, or newly designed 18-inch Diamond cut Black wheels.
The rear is characterised by the elegant lighting in an elongated C-shape. Like the headlights, these use only LED technology. The ASX badge and brand name prominently displayed on the tailgate complete the look.
Mitsubishi Motors offers the new ASX in a choice of five body colours: metallic Crystal White, Sunrise Red, Onyx Black, Royal Blue and Steel Grey. Depending on the model, the ASX comes with a two-tone body with a contrasting Onyx Black roof colour.
The interior of the Mitsubishi ASX 2024 is also based on what we saw on the restyled Captur, with a 7 or 10 inch digital instrument cluster (depending on the trim level) and a central 10.4 inch screen in a vertical position. An infotainment system based on Android Automotive 12 integrates various Google services, from maps to voice assistant. An always-connected system can be updated over the air (without having to visit specialist centres) and from which applications and new functions can be downloaded.
Beneath the central screen are the physical buttons for controlling the air conditioning, while the central tunnel houses two Type C USB sockets and an induction plate for wireless charging of smartphones.
Also inherited from the Captur, the comfortable 16 cm sliding rear bench offers more space for occupants or luggage, with a load compartment that increases from 484 litres to 616 litres when the seats are moved forward, while folding down the rear seats brings the total to 1,596 litres.
The new Mitsubishi ASX is available with a choice of three electrified drive options, including one hybrid and two mild hybrid versions.
The highlight of the engine range of the new Mitsubishi ASX is the 1.6 Hybrid. This so-called ‘full hybrid’ drivetrain of the latest generation combines a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors.
This drivetrain delivers a system output of 105 kW and a maximum torque of 205 Nm.
The hybrid system is powered by a liquid-cooled 1.2 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the boot floor. This enables the ASX 1.6 Hybrid to drive fully electric for up to 80% of city journeys.
Mitsubishi Motors also supplies the new ASX as a 1.3 DI-T Mild Hybrid. This version has a four-cylinder 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which works together with a belt-driven starter/generator that is powered by a 12V lithium-ion battery.
The 1.3 DI-T Mild Hybrid is available in two configurations. The version with a six-speed manual gearbox delivers 103 kW. The version with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is slightly more powerful with 116 kW .
The basic version of the Mitsubishi ASX is powered by the 1.0 MPI-T. This economical three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivers 67 kW and 160 Nm and is coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.
