Door 18 - Crime versus “tragic expression of needs”
All human behavior is an attempt to fulfill one's own needs—(unfortunately) including criminal behavior. The needs of perpetrators are not unique; we all share them, such as "belonging," "power," "security," and "recognition."
Needs are, of course, no excuse for crime, nor should they protect against punishment and restitution—but they can prevent us from provoking even more violence by "dehumanizing" the perpetrators.
