Tectonic Rockaway Inlet (Environmental Engineering)
A major infrastructure reinforcement for coastal resiliency is well underway, as hard sheet piling structures are being constructed with natural softscape plant supporting dune overlays on the shoreline of the Rockaway section of NYC’s Queens County.
Tectonic is providing Special Inspections for the infrastructure improvements, by our NYC Queens office, and ecological monitoring, by our Mountainville headquarters based Environmental team. Ecological monitoring of threatened and endangered species includes shore birds such as Piping Plover, Least Tern, Red Knot, and a rare plant known as Seabeach Amaranth.
This is being performed to ensure project compliance with a Biological Opinion (BO) prepared by the USFWS. Our team is very excited to be on the forefront of coastal resiliency projects that involve monitoring such fascinating species, which are an integral part of the ecosystem on our natural shorelines
