SpaceX Starship SN8 Exploded after first successful high-altitude flight destroy/Boca Chica Texas US
The return of Starship to earth is farther than Musk expected the rocket to get without incident. Even with the explosion, he and SpaceX consider this test flight a success. Public speculation for the explosion is that the fuel tank containing methane had low pressure, which prevented proper fueling and function of the Raptor engines before touchdown. Without proper fueling, the LOX was free to oxidize and destroy the engines as witnessed by onboard video feed (and this video) showing green flames (likely caused by the combustion of copper in the engines). Starship hit the ground too hard.
