Video I took on the afternoon of July 28th, 2024 through my telescope of the Sun. I did this with a solar filter specially designed for observing it safely. You will notice that the Sun is moving from left to right in the video. It isn't the telescope that is moving. It's fixed in place. It's not the Sun either. What you are seeing is the Earth's rotation causing the image of the Sun to move. At high magnifications like this, the Earth's 1,600km/h rotational speed becomes aparrent. Apart from this, you will see that our Sun is littered with sunspots. These are cool areas of the Sun's surface caused by magnetic fields forcing hot gas to flow along magnetic field lines. Our Sun is currently nearing the peak of it's 11-year solar cycle when it's magnetic North and South poles will flip. At the end of the video, there is an image of the Sun with all of the sunpot numbers as well as some details on each one at the bottom.
