About Brent Hermanson
Brent Hermanson leads the Network Infrastructure Services group for Microsoft IT, providing a wide range of network services for Microsoft Employees and Guests. He leads the team through architecture, engineering, implementation, budgeting, service management and the hiring of both technical and administrative staff.
With a strong background across the Infrastructure Services space, Brent has been responsible for managing all corporate data centers, the development and deployment of virtualization and shared storage across the Microsoft IT data center. He has experience with all aspects of financial forecasting, global resource allocation, recruiting and technology direction setting.
In 2008, Brent set forth the virtualization program in the data center which drove multiple year cost savings of $20 million dollars for Microsoft IT. The fundamentals of the program as still in place today, and Microsoft IT has a virtualization footprint that has grown from 5% to over 50% since 2008. He directed the global deployment of 802.11N in 2012-2013 and has consistently delivered large scale infrastructure initiatives on time and on budget. Since joining the Network Infrastructure Service team, the reliability and stability of the global corporate network has increased significantly, and major incidents have been significantly reduced.
Brent attended Western Washington University and North Seattle Community College, was the head Women’s Basketball coach at Bellevue College for 5 years. He continues to be a strong advocate for Women’s athletics in the community.
About Dr. Bithika Khargharia
Dr. Bithika Khargharia is a principal solutions architect and intrapreneur at Extreme Networks as well as director of product and community management at the Open Networking Foundation (ONF). At Extreme Networks, she brings disruptive technologies to market and is spearheading the innovation charter via the US Ignite SDN Innovation Challenge. At ONF, Dr. Khargharia drives the open SDN movement based on real-world market needs through the organization’s open source software development community and code repository website, OpenSourceSDN.org. Dr. Khargharia has 20+ years of technology research and development experience spanning systems engineering. She has most recently spoken at events including Interop Las Vegas 2016, NFV World Congress 2016, and OpenDaylight Summit 2015.
About Gert Vanderstraeten
Gert is a Network Architect in Microsoft's IT organization. His main responsibility is development of strategy for improving the interaction between the network infrastructure and real-time services that are relying on it. He focuses on providing the right user-experience while increasing efficiency and agility by exploring technologies like SDN and NFV, keeping cloud and mobility as a strategic direction in mind.
Prior to Microsoft Gert worked 16 years at Cisco as a Technical Leader and member of technical staff. He has 20 years of experience with troubleshooting, implementing, designing and architecting collaboration solutions while guiding the largest global enterprise customers from legacy communication systems towards full IP environments.
Gert received a Master's degree in Engineering from the U-Hasselt University, Belgium and a Master in Management from the KU Leuven University, Belgium. He holds an active CCIE in the Collaboration track, obtained VMware certification (VCP-DCV) and is a Master ASE (Accredited Systems Engineer) - Network Infrastructure from HP.
