What you have to do is to try to get as close to the product that you want as possible. Use that old camera. Use that midi keyboard with the flimsy switches. Use whatever it is that you have to get a feel for what it is that you really need. Because we often think (or are influenced to believe) that we need a whole lot of features. I often was able to save a lot of money just buy realising, that I actually don't need certain functions or that I could get away with some compromises.
