Bringing Asian American History to Schools Panel
As part of a continuing series on Asian American history in schools hosted by Far East Deep South, watch this informative panel of education experts who will share insights as to what the path forward is to introduce more Asian American history to educators and why it matters. Our panelists include Dr. Russell Jeung (Co-founder of Stop AAPI Hate, San Francisco State University Asian American Studies Department), Dr. Jane Hong (Author of "Opening the Gates to Asia", Occidental College History Department), Ting-Yi Oei (Education director, 1882 Foundation) and Baldwin Chiu (Producer of documentary, Far East Deep South). Panel is moderated by Larissa Lam, director of Far East Deep South.
The panel shares different ways to bring more Asian American history into schools and also give practical example of how to incorporate Asian American history into existing history lessons. During the panel, they will also discuss historical events and people like the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, Larry Itliong, Mississippi Delta Chinese, and Fred Korematsu.
