The #ProductOwner is responsible for maximizing the #value of the #product resulting from the work of the #DevelopmentTeam. How this is done may vary widely across #organizations, #ScrumTeams, and individuals.
The #ProductOwner is the sole person responsible for managing the #ProductBacklog. #ProductBacklog #management includes:
Clearly expressing #ProductBacklog items;
Ordering the #items in the #ProductBacklog to best achieve #goals and #missions;
Optimizing the value of the work the #DevelopmentTeam performs;
Ensuring that the #ProductBacklog is #visible, #transparent, and clear to all, and shows what the
#ScrumTeam will work on next; and,
Ensuring the #DevelopmentTeam understands items in the #ProductBacklog to the level needed.
The #ProductOwner may do the above work, or have the #DevelopmentTeam do it. However, the #ProductOwner remains accountable.
The #ProductOwner is one person, not a committee. The #ProductOwner may represent the desires of a committee in the #ProductBacklog, but those wanting to change a #ProductBacklog item's priority must address the #ProductOwner.
For the #ProductOwner to succeed, the entire #organization must respect his or her decisions. The #ProductOwner's decisions are #visible in the #content of ordering of the #ProductBacklog. No one can force the #DevelopmentTeam to work from a different set of requirements.
