The past few weeks have been pretty draining, emotionally. I'd learned this song a while back, but right now the timing feels right to actually record and share this. Trent Reznor's lyrics do a good job of putting words to a specific kind of pain. Speaking of lyrics, I went for the original 'crown of sh*t' line, instead of Cash's 'crown of thorns'. It's not that I think one is better than the other, I just think the original line resonates more with my own struggles with my self-image.
I suppose this is another instance of me posting a cover of a somber song that itself has been covered in spectacular fashion by an unexpected artist. In this case, Johnny Cash has given this song an incredible rendition, and then a couple weeks ago I did The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, which had an excellent cover by Disturbed. I guess that's just the track my mind is on.
