The US Supreme Court made headlines again this week with a landmark EPA decision that significantly influences the fight against climate change.

West Virginia Coal 1, EPA 0
The Supreme Court favored Congress over the EPA in the latest decision, a 6-3 call which severely limits the EPA’s ability to set carbon emissions limits. The case centered around a handful of fossil fuel-heavy states led by West Virginia. Whatever the impact of the SCOTUS ruling on climate change itself, the decision dealt a major blow to one of President Biden’s primary tools for setting policy.

CRISPR Against Climate Change?
Mark Zuckerberg, of Facebook fame, has a solution for the climate crisis: gene editing. Zuckerberg's foundation gave a $11 million grant to the Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI), which is researching the possibility of boosting the ability of plants and soil-based microbes to absorb CO2. The idea sounds far-fetched, but is one of those ideas with nearly limitless potential - if it works.

Google Gives Away The Earth Engine
Google Earth was little short of mind-blowing when it first came out. The idea of being able to zoom in on all but the smallest of earth’s features felt revolutionary. The Google Earth Engine took that idea a step further, allowing academic and professional researchers to analyze decades of satellite imagery in order to track long-term shifts. Now, Google is opening the Earth Engine to all government and commercial entities, allowing the impacts of climate change to be analyzed and tracked more deeply than ever before.
