Purple toothpaste for the perfect smile? 🦷 We check out what it can really do!
Want to magically whiten yellow teeth in minutes with purple toothpaste? That's what various vendors on TikTok promise! And we all want sparkling white teeth, right? We investigated whether and how this works, how long the effect lasts, and spoke with the developer of such a "tooth serum" (and yes, the product is actually called a tooth serum!).
Whiten teeth without… um, yes, without bleaching?! Just with… color? That's what the vendors of the purple tooth serums promise, at least. You don't simply paint your teeth white, but rather brush them with a deep purple toothpaste. There are more vendors and developers of this purple miracle cure on the internet than the tooth fairy can collect teeth. Prices range from €22.90 to a staggering €112.95 for thirty milliliters! You tagged us in the TikTok ads for all these (rather expensive!) toothpastes, so we decided to investigate!
The dental serum is supposed to work using complementary contrast. Simply put: yellow and purple are opposite each other on the color wheel – and when light of these colors is mixed, you get instantly whiter teeth. That's the theory! We also talked to one of the minds behind the purple toothpaste. Dr. Hagen Hesse was involved in developing such a dental serum and also discussed its production and advertising with us.
