The animals aren't better off?! Rügenwalder Mühle likes to showcase its own veggie products – and even has influencers like Joyce and Mirellativegal test and promote them. And on TikTok, Luca Hänni, Nadine Breaty, and the rest are happily dancing to the motto "Snack Veggie." But are we really "saving" animals when we buy the substitute products?

Just vegetables, fruit, and a bit of tofu? No, a vegan diet hasn't been that "boring" for a long time. There are now numerous vegan or vegetarian meat substitutes. From veggie sausages to veggie ham to meatless meatballs, you can now find everything in supermarkets – and in YouTube videos, TikTok posts, and Instagram stories. Influencers love testing, reviewing, and promoting vegan substitutes. For example, Mirellativegal and Lisa Sophie Laurent have participated in Rügenwalder Mühle panel discussions in the past. And on TikTok, Nadine Breaty and Luca Hänni are currently celebrating the "Snack Veggie" song – also a collaboration with Rügenwalder Mühle.

What's special about Rügenwalder is that it's a company that also produces meat and sausage from animals. We wanted to know what's behind this veggie strategy. Are companies like Rügenwalder or Tönnies (which also serve the vegetarian market with the brands "es schmeckt," "Vevia," and "Gutfried veggie") really on the path to making the world a little more vegan and saving animal lives?
