Sending Home Assistant notifications via radio instead of the internet using APRS!
A quick rundown of my setup to send notifications via radio instead of the internet for when I'm out in the bush camping with no cell coverage. Keep in mind, this is not a tutorial, just a demonstration / overview. If you want to know more, leave a comment! It will encourage me to make a more technical video.
I use a TNC modem connected to Xastir which then dumps data into node-red. Node-red only passes messages sent from me on to home assistant. When home assistant receives the correct command, it will send out a packet of information with the status of a few sensors in my house! In addition to that, I have a input_boolean setup to control whether or not alerts are also sent by radio.
Please note: If you want to do something similar, make sure you are licensed to transmit on whichever frequencies you choose to use.
