merry go round
It's Christmas. There are fairs and people running around looking all cheery and christmassy. Complete strangers come up to you and throw their arms around you wishing you a merry merry Christmas like they do in the movies. You check your pockets because you grew up in a world where people don't do this so much. Other complete strangers buy you a drink and offer you a hot sausage roll and you politely decline... But the point is that it's Christmas and the world is a lovely place to be living in. The smell of mince pies and gin surround us. There's a lot of ho-ho-hoing and tinsel falls in tendrils from every tree.
Here we have a merry-go-round (also known, for Rogers and Hammerstein fans, as a carousel). It spins around wildly until the poor waving folks feel distinctly unwell. Somewhere in York opening on to the Shambles (where Harry Potter buys his wands)
May the flames on your puddings burn blue!
