Hookpaw confides in her mother, Silverhook, about her unrequited love for Dancingpaw.

TW: Potentially triggering language - dialogue has a parental figure referring to an off-screen unrequited love interest as “stupid”, “a moron”, etc. for not returning their child’s feelings. It’s a lighthearted scene, but I wanted to make a note of it just in case. If there’s anything I forgot to mention or that I should elaborate on, please let me know. ❤️

Happy Valentine’s Day! I wanted to do something for the holiday, but my other projects that would fit the theme, won’t be ready in time. So, I whipped this up at the last minute, over Superbowl weekend! I hope you all enjoy it, and Valentine's Day itself.
I tend to be a Gal-entine’s Day person, spending the day with friends, but this year I'm on vacation with family (hence this scheduled upload!). So, a family-centric animation seemed fitting.

Plot: Hooktail has had a crush on Dancingwish since they were kits, but has known it to be unrequited for just as long. As a child, Hookpaw struggles with this tremendously, and doesn’t know from whom to seek advice. Her mother, Silverhook, is a bit cold and blunt… but offers surprisingly good assurance to her daughter.

For more videos with Hooktail, see my playlist for her & her best friend, Lionsong:    • Lionsong & Hooktail (all, upload order)

Audio is from Clueless (1995), but I’ve also added the instrumental main theme from Somewhere In Time (1980), since I thought it sounded nice with the Clueless dialogue. See the bottom of the description for more thoughts on that!

I had the “Somewhere In Time” soundtrack in my Spotify study playlists for years, without having seen the film. I just watched the film while working on this project - wow! I enjoyed it, but it was so sad.
In that context, it certainly doesn’t fit with a Clueless clip (haha!), but I think it fits for these characters. Both mother and daughter can relate to a ‘doomed’ love, one unrequited and the other cut too short (like the film)… Hooktail and Dancingwish cannot be together, because the latter is in love with Firefur. Silverhook and Spruceheart (Hooktail’s father) cannot be together, because he has passed away. So in that sense, I think the music fits, even if paired with very silly dialogue.
