Former Supreme Court Justice Harry Díaz, representing Iván Montalvo, filed a challenge against the presidential candidate of the Realizing Goals Party, Ricardo Martinelli, based on Article 178 of the Constitution, which states that those who have been elected president or vice president of the Republic cannot be elected to those positions in the two immediately following presidential terms. However, the Administrative Electoral Court on duty did not admit the document, which, in Díaz's opinion, meant that the second presidential term, after Martinelli's presidential term expires, is until June 30, 2024.
