The McDonnell XF-85 Goblin was an American fighter aircraft manufactured during World War II by McDonnell Aircraft for tests. It was one of the smallest fighter jets ever which were built in 1948. It was supposed to be deployed from the bomb bay of the B 36 bomber. It was a parasite fighter jet. Its intended role was to protect bomber aircraft from enemy interceptor jets. It was tested several times after the production of two prototypes. Russians were developing fighter jets that were to be carried within the Northrop XB-35 and B-36. US air force wanted to manufacture to tackle these jets. This jet had an egg-shaped fuselage and a forked-tail stabilizer design. The performance of this jet was not up to the mark and was not capable enough to go through combat situations. It was also facing difficulties in docking the plane with carrier aircraft. The program was halted after the development of two XF 85 Globin prototypes.
