On the second day of my Jordan adventure, I embarked on a captivating journey to explore the Roman Ruins of Jerash. Starting from Amman, I hopped into a cab conveniently located near my Downtown hotel, which took me to the Amman Northern Bus Stand for just 2JD. From there, I boarded a local bus bound for Ajloun, with a stop in Jerash. The bus dropped us off a mere 100 meters from the entrance to the Jerash ruin site, costing around 1.25 JD per person. However, if the bus is solely destined for Jerash and not continuing to Ajloun, the fare is reduced to 1 JD.
Jerash's vast expanse requires ample time to explore fully, typically taking about 3-4 hours. Our journey commenced from the South Gate, meandering through the site's remarkable landmarks until we reached the North Gate. Highlights not to be missed include the awe-inspiring North and South Stadiums, the majestic Temple of Zeus and Artemis, and the historic Hippodrome.
Returning to our hotel followed a similar route: first by bus 1 JD per head, then a cab, which cost us 3 JD—a considerably more economical option compared to group tours or private cab bookings from the hotel to Jerash.
As evening descended, our sights shifted towards catching a bus to Aqaba for the next leg of our adventure: Wadi Rum, often dubbed the "Mars of Earth." Stay tuned for the upcoming episode, where I'll delve into our Aqaba journey and our unforgettable overnight experience in Wadi Rum.
