Welcome to the BirdHouse community garden in Los Angeles, the first Urban Eco Restoration Camp! Follow Cameron Miller, our Ecological Program Manager, on a tour of our garden grown using permaculture principles as he explains his strategy to build the garden for maximum biodiversity and healthy soil.

Includes information on growing food, herbs, plant medicine such as holy basil, our greywater recycling system, soil restoration, compost, compost tea, recycling neighborhood materials and erosion control using vetiver grass. Featuring traditional uses for our native elderberry, which was gifted to us by our Tongva teacher, Lazaro Arvizu Jr..

We often work in conjunction with the Hollywood Orchard to harvest, and distribute the food we grow to our members as well as to communities in need.

We also host monthly Arts and Ecology Days where people can learn about how plants grow and how ecology functions as well as express their experience in the garden through the arts such as printmaking, sign making, storytelling, and music.
