2001 Sportsmobile Contempo-top (Chevrolet 3500) Class B Camper Van Walkaround/Walkthrough Tour
No frills walk-around and walk-through of an awesome Sportsmobile I owned for a while. The video is 13 minutes, so be warned it may be boring!
Minimal talking, no music, just a look at the features, functions, and just a good introduction for anyone considering a Sportsmobile with the Contempo-top. Cool retro graphics, stylish wheel covers cover the 8-lug heavy-duty wheels... In fact, the 6-lug pattern of the covers fooled one skeptic who challenged this being a 3500 until he saw a photo. That stands as a compliment to Sportsmobile's choice of aesthetic compliments to this vehicle. Not every Sportsmobile is or needs to be a Quigley 4x4 and this one's a great example of a 2WD highway cruising model.
It had relatively low miles at the time and ran great. Very comfortable to drive cross-country and as a daily driver. As I understand the couple who owned it after me got a flip-down hitch-mounted spare tire carrier (like Roadtrek uses). The patch on the rear left door is where the rigid tire carrier damaged the metal door skin. The video also shows the interior's dark tint peeling away in places. I understand the new owner was having that replaced, as well.
Note that for any used vehicle you buy, have it checked out by a pro shop you trust and get any issues addressed as part of the deal. This one had a whine addressed (power steering pump and/or belt tensioner pulley), exhaust replaced (preventative), a few seals and cooling system joints replaced, as well as a couple other minor things to ensure a trouble-free road trip.
