The Liker Leadership Institute provides global online training programs based on a collaboration between Toyota Way author Jeffrey Liker (CEO) and Senior Lean Advisor George Trachilis (President). George created a book, OEM Principles of Lean Thinking, and an accompanying on-line course, with input from Jeff Liker, Mike Hoseus, co-author of Toyota Culture, and Norman Bodek, author of the Harada Method. This book and course preceded the formation of the Institute and has been taken by thousands of students consistently getting almost perfect scores in student evaluations. Regardless of your lean journey, and where you are in that journey, this book and this course are invaluable in stating for everyone in the company the expected behavior that needs to exist for this kind of change to take hold. It all starts with the basics (principles) and makes the connection on how to implement these principles regardless of the industry that you find yourself in today.
This course complements the more recently developed online course, The Toyota Way to Lean Leadership, based on the book of that name by Jeffrey Liker and Gary Convis. In some cases students interested in the lean leadership course benefit from a refresher on the basics of lean and treat this as a prerequisite to the leadership course. Others have taken the course as a standalone introduction to lean thinking and methodology.
The Principles of Lean Thinking provides an overview organized around the 5 Principles of Lean Thinking from the book by James Womack and Dan Jones: Define Value from the customer's perspective, Identify the Value Stream, Make the Process Flow, Pull from the customer, and Strive for Perfection. Throughout the course you will learn more deeply through exercises, case examples, quizzes, and actual projects in your workplace under the guidance of talented lean coaches.
