What is Parkrun?
It is a free weekly timed 5 km walk or run that takes place every Saturday morning in outdoor spaces
around Australia as well as in many other countries around the world. It is for anyone who can walk,
jog or run 5 km or anyone who would like to be involved as a spectator or volunteer. You do not
have to be a super speedy runner to be welcomed or to join in. Even though it is called park run,
walking is encouraged. I quite often go along for what I call park chat where I just talk to a friend as
we walk or jog around the course. I have met people of all ages there, from babies being pushed
around in in strollers through to people in their eighties. Children can come along to run or walk but
if they are under 11 years old they must be with their responsible adult all the time. It is not a race
and there is a volunteer called a tail walker who finishes last.
