The tool device is incredibly important and is often underused and misunderstood by a lot of producers and artists. As important as it is to try and maintain a good signal level from device to device in a chain sometimes we run into situations where need extra control. Plus not all devices have a level control or dry/wet. All the parameters in the tool can be used for either creative or utilitarian purposes. For example at some stage in the signal flow we could increase the stereo width (assuming the signal is stereo) and then towards the end we could shrink it. Literally there are hundreds of things that the tool can be used for and it's important to remember that in the digital domain constants changes to level will NOT degrade the quality of the audio. (That's the main reason we work with digital!)
In this video I try to explain where people often go wrong with the tool device and you'll get to see me mess up as well. All part of learning!
