I'm not dead! Just extremely busy (as usual) so here's a quick edit to prove it.

I've seen ROTB twice in theatre already and my gosh every screening gets better. But something was eating at me...
I never got into BW, I miss Bayverse, Steve Jablonsky didn't do all of the soundtrack,... so why did this movie feel so good despite it all?

Because it referenced so much of the Bayverse whether this was wanted or not. This movie is straight up a respectful tribute to Bayverse, G1 and Beast Wars altogether and it may sound a bit corny to say it like that but I feel that for once fans are united in a movie, as one (wink wink if you get the ref).

When it comes to the soundtrack, I'm reaaaaally picky whenever someone has to take over another composer's work. It happened for POTC and it failed, as much as it failed for the Bumblebee Movie, where the soundtrack felt like a cheap copy of Steve's work.
Now for ROTB, I had a couple talks with Steve and he had already teased me about his involvement with Jongnic. This soundtrack was done in a mutual respect, with passion and sweat and tears and you can tell. Jongnic was the perfect guy to take over Steve's work without pushing Steve aside. The two of them delivered massive work on both sides, creating a soundtrack that doesn't feel out of place like BBM's.

Now I still have my criticism about the movie, of course. Going from 30' tall robots in Bayverse to 18' tall robots in ROTB, it still felt weird to me. The robots often look out of place, kinda plastic-like but that gives the Maximals more room to shine. And omg that they did. Airazor popped off as my favorite alongside Cheetor and the final battle had me on the edge of my seat for the entire thing.

I hadn't felt that since Age of Extinction.

So ROTB, thank you for the experience, I'll forever cherish the movie for the crazy emotions it made me feel ^^

Until next time!
