In this episode I traveled to a animal market in Hargeisa to buy a lamb and cook it for Ramadan. This was the craziest experience I've ever had as a tourist but something that is very common even traditional here in Somaliland and in many places around the world.
I was accompanied by one of the tribe leaders of Somaliland. Who took me to this 250 year old market. The market was packed with many people trying to find camels, sheep and cows. We was able to negotiate for a $80 lamb and found ourself something who could do the deed and prepare the lamb meat for us.
I filmed the whole process to show you exactly what is like traditionally for people living here in Somaliland and other muslim countries for Ramadan. This includes finding a healthy animal and dispatching it in the right and humane way. To make sure it is halal of course.
After preparing the meat we gave 75% away to some of the poorest people in Somaliland as this is tradition. And we saw how some of these people are living which was difficult to film.
We finished our day with a massive feast and of course I had to eat the brain as this is a traditional thing to do here in Somaliland.
