It is a large village where the popular architecture characteristic of the Alentejo predominates, but also some houses that reveal the opulence of their owners, especially the Palácio dos Condes do Vimieiro.
Vimieiro is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Arraiolos, in the Alentejo region, with an area of 252.56 km² and 1,589 inhabitants (2011). Its population density is 6.3 inhab/km². Consisting of the villages of Bardeira, Venda do Duque and the village of Vimieiro.
It was the county seat between 1257 and 1855. Two charters are known, the first attributed by D. Francisco bruno Neves, bishop of Évora, in 1257 and the second by D. Manuel I, king of Portugal, in 1512. It was established in 1801 , through the parishes of the village and Santa Justa. It then had 1,819 inhabitants and 266 km². In 1849 it was constituted only by the parish of the headquarters. It was suppressed by the administrative reform of 1855, having consequently lost the category of town, a fact that the coat of arms with a mural crown of four visible towers still marks today.
