2008 HDSF Empowerment Program Meet & Greet
On October 22, 2008 students from the 2008-2009 HDSF Empowerment Program class met their respective adult volunteer mentors. These 87 students, and their respective mentors will work with each other over the next seven months. HDSF mentors will help students complete the sometimes overwhelming college application process. Each year HDSF offers a new class of high school seniors the unique opportunity to develop relationships with working professionals from the Washington region. HDSF works with students selected from our six partner D.C. public high schools. Students team up with working professionals once a month from October through May to build networks and gain much needed advice in navigating the college application process. The majority of HDSF students come from single-parent households and will be the first in their immediate families to attend college. The monthly mentoring sessions provide much needed advice and opportunity for our students in their quest to successfully complete college and enter the professional world.
