Temple 80 Kokubunji - 国分寺
The fourth Official State Temple, Kokubunji - 国分寺, of Shikoku, Temple 80 is one of the finest Kokubunji in all of Japan. Kokubunji were built in the 8th century after a small pox epidemic swept through Japan killing about 1/3 of the population. This Kokubunji of Kagawa still has its original bell, which you can ring. Though the main hall dates from the Kamakura period, it is still one of the oldest Kokubunji main halls in all of Japan. The grounds of the temple are serene with a wonderful mini-pilgrimage you can quickly walk through. While giant pagoda foundation stones great you as you walk towards the main hall, they are no from the original pagoda. お遍路四国八十八ヶ所 T80国分寺
